Wine of the Month
BB Balbo ‘Oak’ Chardonnay 2016
The BB Balbo ‘Oak’ Chardonnay 2016 by renown Wine-producer Familia Falasco, originated in the famous Uco Valley in Mendoza. For being a quite young Chardonnay, it sure has a lot of oak, as noted on the label.
This Chardonnay’s typical color is a beautiful golden yellow with some green shades in the glass. On the nose it is very smoky with toasted bread, some vanilla and a bit of an herbal note on the backend, however, there is close to no fruit.
The palate is unctuous and smooth, with more smoke and toasted aromas than yellow fruit. We can’t say if there are any fruit aromas in this Chardonnay apart from maybe a hint of passion fruit on the mid-palate, it has a very nice length and balance with punchy acidity and a honeyed smokiness.
A perfect companion to roasted chicken or chicken from the Asador with herbs and spices. Will also pair well with Salmon and a Dill crust or with creamy white sauces. Or why not try it with spicy Italian style sausage from the grill!
Get inspired and enjoy this very budget-friendly Chardonnay with our great food!
BB Balbo Oak/Roble Malbec 2016
The Balbo Oak (a.k.a Roble) Malbec 2016 grapes have spent 6 month in oak barrels and the fruit is harvested from different vineyards in Altamira, La Consulta and San Carlos, all situated within the famous wine growing region of the Valle de Uco in Mendoza Argentina.
The intense ruby red color with purple highlights and aromas of fresh mixed berries and black cherry marmalade is followed by plum, raisins and lots of caramel. All is rounded off by a sliver of fresh thyme at the end and which is quite something.
The palate has bright violets with licorice, a herbal note and a caramelized finish, a very intriguing flavor profile for a wine at this price point.
Pairing it with red meat from the grill or even better from the Asador will be just right. Chicken, lamb or a soft cheese plate are an equally good choice!
