‘Borgo di Poppiano’
Chianti 2018

Chianti, the Perfect Food Accompaniment!

The Chianti ‘Borgo di Poppiano’ 2018 from Montespertoli, just south of Florence, in beautiful Tuscany,
is made of 85% Sangiovese grapes and 15% Canaiolo grapes.

Sangiovese grapes have been cultivated for wine-making since before the 1600s. This grape gets
its name from the sanguis Jovis, which translates to “Blood of Jupiter”, king of the gods according
to Roman mythology.

Like the Spanish Rioja region with the Tempranillo grapes, the Tuscan Chianti region is known for its strict adherence to tradition and many varied microclimate zones which leads to many different sub appellations in
the region. Tuscan Chianti winemakers have been honored with DOC classification and even DOCG, the highest designation of quality among Italian wines And both Chiantis and Riojas are known to be great food wines!

The Chianti ‘Borgo di Poppiano’ color is a beautiful, appetizing ruby-red with vibrant orange reflexes that Chianti wines can display in the glass. On the nose, there is an intense warm and vinous bouquet of cherries, warm cherry tart and fresh violet flowers supported by a great earthiness and even a hint of black pepper. The wine is not heavy, but rather elegant and refreshing. Its alcohol level is between 12.5-13.5%.

It has a wonderful youthful and mouth-filling juiciness and great power that makes
this the perfect companion for a good meal! Grilled meats like the big Fiorentina-steak
to share, a grilled Tagliata steak with salad, or rich tomato based pasta dishes like sausage ragu,
a classical bolognese, or ravioli filled with meat and topped with Parmigiano cheese. A creamy carbonara
also comes to mind.
