TUSCANY CALLING
Tuscany – the land of Michelangelo and Leonardo da Vinci, with rolling hills in the morning mist with the characteristic lines of Cypress trees, medieval towns surrounded by old walls, and lots of beautiful marble on the inside. It is the land of Dante Alighieri, the Medici family, and the land that produces some of the world’s most extraordinary wines.Traditionally, it is home to the Sangiovese grape (sanguis Jovis, “the blood of Jupiter”) planted along the wild Tuscan coast and the picturesque hills of Montalcino and the Chianti; it is the base of so many famous and loved wines.
There are the international grapes like Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grown along the coast in Bolgheri and Maremma and made famous by the rebellious and now very thought after “Super Tuscan” wines.
Tuscany’s wines have captivated the world with their elegance and nuance. They are perfect wines to be paired with the great Italian dishes and recipes from the region we all know and love.
Each of those wines tells the story of a region that has enchanted visitors for generations.
In Maremma along the southern coast, Fattoria Le Pupille winery showed the world the greatness of sea-kissed Sangiovese and international grapes like Cabernet and Merlot.
The Fattoria Le Pupille Morellino di Scansano DOCG 2021 is an excellent example of Sangiovese fruit forwardness with aromas of cherries, raspberries, figs, and forest strawberries, mixed with the typical earthy tones and juicy acidity that make these wines such great choices to pair with food.Alternatively, the ultimate Super Tuscan treat is a Fattoria Le Pupille Saffredi IGT Toscana 2020 glass.
Thanks to a unique combination of microclimate, flora, and fauna in Bolgheri along the northern coast, growers at wineries like I Greppi craft Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot into some of the world’s collectible wines.
I, Greppi Greppicante Bolgheri Rosso Superiore DOC 2019, decadent and rich, will be an unforgettable memory from the homeland of Super Tuscan wines.
In Montalcino, Ridolfi winery’s terroir-driven approach to winemaking produces elegant, long-lived Brunello di Montalcino, made from 100 % Sangiovese. Ridolfi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 2017 and Rosso di Montalcino DOC 2020 are not to be missed gems for all Brunello lovers.
In the Chianti Classico, especially in the Conca d’Oro (“The Golden Valley”), the Sangiovese grown by historic estates like Cafaggio is one of the most elegant and complex. A steep natural amphitheater with a southern exposure, optimum altitude, and mineral-rich soil is one of the area’s most renowned growing sites. Cafaggio Chianti Classico Riserva DOCG 2017 is the embodiment of the reason why Chianti Classico is the quintessential Tuscan wine.
Each place has its history written in a bottle; you can create and collect your greatest memories of this magical region through this unique collection of fine wines.
Buon viaggio!
